As a Graduate of the Global Technical Support team at Ciena, you will be responsible for:

Automating data collection and issue resolution using JavaScript and Python scripting languages.
Providing system-level pre and post-sales support for Ciena’s customers, including testing, troubleshooting, and remote technical assistance for Ciena products.
Collaborating with senior engineers to address field issues and assist in communication with Design and Supply Chain on identified problems.
Utilizing debugging tools and lab research to aid in resolving technical problems, and escalating incidents when necessary.
Contributing to documentation, knowledge base, and publishing of technical documents.
Acting as a Customer Lead Engineer for specific clients.
Engaging in resident engineering functions on-site or remotely.
Travelling to customer sites and Ciena locations worldwide.

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Computer Science) from a four-year college or university, with up to three years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience automating tasks using JavaScript and Python scripting languages.
Fundamental understanding of fiber optic transport and/or switching equipment.
Preferred experience in a technical support role with a telecommunications equipment vendor.
Problem-solving experience with OTN/SONET/SDH equipment, Carrier Ethernet equipment, or related fiber optic facilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Self-motivated and excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
Familiarity with optical and protocol testing equipment.
Profound knowledge of OTN, SONET/SDH/DWDM, Carrier Ethernet protocols, and a basic understanding of other Switching/transport concepts.
Basic knowledge of computers, data communications, Linux, and IP networks.
Experience with network management systems is advantageous.
Excellent relationship-building skills and customer focus.
Strong team player capable of working in stressful situations.
Proficiency in verbal and written communication in English.
